Indian Madras

At John Simons a number of our products are produced in a rare hand-loomed Indian madras. Madras is a hand-spun yarn, with a relatively loose weave, which ages beautifully with time. Madras is famed for its gauze-like quality, making it very breathable and comfortable to wear during the Spring/Summer months. Madras fabric was extremely popular throughout the 1960’s and utilised by many of the key shirt makers throughout the Ivy League Boom Years. Traditionally found in an array of interesting plaids and unusual awning stripes, Madras continues to be a staple fabric for our garments.
