Founded in London in 1951, Gloverall began by selling surplus Royal Navy duffle coats before commissioning new coats made to the original military pattern. The Original Monty takes its name from Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, whose association with the duffle coat during the Second World War helped establish it as an enduring piece of British outerwear. Staying true to its naval origins, the Monty retains the practical details and generous proportions of the original design.
Made from heavyweight boiled wool, the coat features a distinctive hood, wooden toggle fastenings with jute rope loops and two large patch pockets. Its oversized fit allows for comfortable layering, making it well suited to the colder months. Made in England, the Original Monty remains a classic example of traditional British outerwear, with a design that has changed little since Gloverall first introduced it.
