Fans of the John Simons look will by now undoubtedly be familiar with our Ivy League Button down shirts, which incorporate many of John’s favourite Ivy League details from the 1950s/1960s. This iteration comes in a Thomas Mason Birdseye Cotton Popover.
The popover has an undoubted pedigree within Ivy League style; the direct descendent of the longer placket pullover, which was in fact Brooks Brothers first form of button down all the way back in 1896. The shorter placket popover was a staple of the Ivy League Look throughout the 1950s and 60s both in short sleeve iterations, often in light fabrics such as end to end cotton, or madras, or in longer sleeve variants, with solid colours in oxford cotton. Whilst placket lengths did vary, the archetypal model featured a short 3 button placket, which is exactly what we have utilised here at John Simons.
