Classic Board Shirt – Brown Ombre

Pendleton was founded in 1863 by English weaver Thomas Kayon, a man with an intimate knowledge of the wool business. Perhaps of most interest to fans of the Ivy League look, are Pendelton’s loop collar board shirts, a style of relaxed shirt-jacket popularised by West Coast surfers of the 1960’s and brought to mainstream attention by a little-known music group named The Beach Boys.

In the early 1960s, Pendleton shirts hit the airwaves courtesy of the Majorettes, whose song “White Levis” became a number one hit in 1963. But before that, a group called The Pendletones sang about the California surfing scene. The group soon changed their name to the Beach Boys but retained their uniform of Pendleton loop collar board shirts worn over crew neck tee shirts with khakis or white five pocket pants. The band wore this iconic blue and charcoal plaid shirt on the covers of 45’s and LP’s throughout the 1960s.
